With our pedagogical ethos we support children on their
path to becoming open, honest, friendly and expressive personalities.
At KISH, our children are encouraged to learn through play, while being immersed in German and English language and culture. We welcome children from all backgrounds and sing songs, tell stories, read books, play games and learn nursery rhymes in both languages. We also focus a lot of our attention on outdoor learning.

Our History
25 years “Kids in the Scout House”
KISH was founded in 1995 at the Sea Scout House in Petersham next to the German School London (DSL). Our name derives from our first location:
KISH= Kids In the Scout House.
Thurit Berge, a native German teacher, opened KISH Kindergarten as a German speaking setting for children from German speaking backgrounds. Through our longstanding relationship with the German School London, we also extended our opening hours and welcomed children from the DSL to join us for afternoons at KISH.
Katharina Haselberger joined in 2006 as an English speaker to support the daily routine in English, which built the foundation for our bilingual concept as it stands today.
In 2014, KISH Nursery (an English-speaking branch in Ham) was opened. The same principles of our concept have made a positive and valuable contribution to the new location and, over the years, many children from all different language backgrounds joined KISH Nursery.
In 2019 KISH Kindergarten said goodbye to the Sea Scout House and found a new home in St Andrew’s Church Hall. With the great location, spacious rooms and garden, and the neighboring woodland, this setting quickly became our new home.
September 2020 (25 years after the birth of KISH) is yet another milestone for our ever evolving and improving establishment. We have now merged KISH Kindergarten and KISH Nursery to combine the two languages to a bilingual KISH at one location in St Andrew’s Church Hall.
