A few FAQ's

My child does not speak any German, can they still join?

• Yes! Our bilingual concept supports not only children who are accustomed to the German language but also children who do not know it yet. Together with the children, the team and our great concept all children will learn new songs, vocabulary, rhymes and names! All our traditions and routine changes are supported in both languages: tidy up songs, circle time activities, register time, birthdays, hello songs, finger- and action games.

 

Who provides food for the children in the morning session?

• Children bring their own breakfast. During breakfast the children choose between fruit tea, milk or water. During free-play children have their own individual water bottles to drink from.

 

Does the kindergarten provide food and drink for the afternoon care?

• The afternoon care starts with a warm, two course lunch, prepared daily by our in house chef. Children staying for extended afternoons, are served a cold snack prepared by us.
• Each child brings their own water bottle or flask.

 

Are birthdays celebrated? If yes, how?

• We all know how important birthdays are and we celebrate them in style at KISH! The children create a crown for the birthday child and bake a cake to share with the group. At circle time we sing a birthday song and play a birthday game.

 

What does my child need to bring to the kindergarten?

• The children bring slippers, waterproof clothing (trousers and jacket) and their rucksack, which contains their breakfast and the water bottle.

 

Is there a library?

• Yes, the children can borrow books once a week to take home and read. The books are then returned the week after and exchanged for another exciting story.

 

Is there co-operation with other schools?

• We work closely with the German School London.
  

 

Which clothing is appropriate for outside, especially Nature Day?

• Water proofs are necessary in summer as well as winter!
  
  Summer:

  • Light and cool clothing, but especially for trips we still encourage long sleeves.
  • A warmer jacket or fleece for the cooler morning hours
  • Trainers – or trekking sandals (closed-toes!)
  • Sun hat

  
  Winter:

  • Different layers
  • Shoes: padded waterproof trekking shoes, padded wellies or waterproof snow boots
  • Padded waterproof trousers or summer outdoor trousers with fleeced inside trousers
  • Avoid jeans!
  • Woolly or fleecy hat
  • Woolly or fleecy gloves or mittens with waterproof mittens or work gloves on top

How often are the children outside?

• Our children spend between one to three hours in the outdoors on a daily basis.

 

In which way do you work with the children that have just moved in order to make their new start a positive one?

• With our concept we aim to help children settle quickly by providing well-structured and socially safe surroundings. We concentrate on a structured daily routine and on individual care for each child. Settling in sessions are discussed with the parents in advance and parents are encouraged to stay for the first day to support their child during the transition time.

 

Is there a waiting list?

• Yes there is and any questions will be happily answered by the manager, Katharina Haselberger.
  

 

Do the children need to be toilet trained?

• Because of the layout of the building and the toilet area, children need to be secure going to the toilet. Of course, we help in the process! 

 

Where is your kindergarten situated with regards to the German School?

• We are a short 4 min drive away from the German School London

 

What festivities are celebrated?

• We celebrate festivities around the German and English calendar and the seasons. We start with the St-Martin's lantern walk and celebrate Christmas. After the New Year we prepare for carnival, World Book Day and Easter and celebrate our families on Family Day. At the end of the year we organise a big summer party. Additional multicultural festivities are celebrated with parents and incorporated into our calendar.

 

What is the entry/required age?

• Most of the children join us from the age of 3 with 4 spaces for children aged 2. The admission for under 3 year olds nevertheless is discussed individually with the parents. Our decision for admission is based on the development stage of each child.

 

How many children are in the group?

• We have two groups with alternating routines for the morning sessions. Both groups can take a maximum of 16 children, depending on the age. Children, who stay in the afternoons, then merge into one group after lunch.
